Our Story

How it all started...

Maplewood Church is an evangelical, non-denominational church started with a meeting of four families on June 18, 1965. The first service was held on June 27, 1965 with forty-four people attending in the basement of a home. They were seeking to spread the gospel of Christ around Sedalia. In October of 1965 they rented the Maplewood Grange Hall. This became their home for the next five years.
Different lay pastors from Village Missions (an organization that aids in the development of rural churches) shepherded Maplewood in its beginnings, each serving from six months to several years or more, all stressing the need to reach out to the community.

In 1970, the existing Maplewood Church sanctuary was built on Highway O on land donated by a local businessman and farmer. On April 25, 1971 the Sanctuary was dedicated to the Lord. A Christian education building was dedicated on February 14, 1982. In the 1990's additions were added to the Sanctuary. On November 9, 2003 the gym was dedicated to the Lord. On June 29, 2025 the Family Ministry and Worship Center were dedicated to the Lord.

Maplewood maintains a strong, Bible-focused, family-oriented ministry with vibrant programs for children and youth. God has blessed us with over thirteen acres of land and multiple buildings.  We seek to minister to Sedalia, Smithton, and the surrounding communities for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ!
